The Red Sox have signed catcher Juan Centeno, 29, to a minor league contract, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com.
Centeno has played in 111 major-league games with the Mets (2013-14), Brewers (2015), Twins (2016), Astros (2017) and Rangers (2018). He has a career major league batting average of .227. He hit .234 in 59 games for Texas' Triple-A affiliate in 2018.
Centeno, from Puerto Rico, played winter ball for Red Sox manager Alex Cora in Caguas, Puerto Rico, in the winter of 2016 and was with Houston when Cora was the bench coach in 2017. He'll likely be a depth option at Triple-A Pawtucket with Christian Vazquez, Blake Swihart and Sandy Leon on the major league roster.
