Boston Red Sox star Rafael Devers has been the best third baseman in the American League this season, but his exceptional stats apparently aren't enough to warrant a spot in the 2019 MLB All-Star Game.
Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros (starter) and Matt Chapman of the Oakland Athletics (reserve) are the AL third baseman in the All-Star game despite having worse stats than Devers.
It's still possible Devers is selected to the AL squad, but a spot would have to open up due to an injury or something. Complicating his path to the All-Star Game is the fantastic performance of Red Sox teammate Xander Bogaerts, who surprisingly was snubbed from the AL team despite being arguably the league's best shortstop this season.
Devers' omission from the All-Star game is made worse when you look at his stats compared to the AL's other third baseman. Here's where Devers ranks among AL third baseman in popular stat categories as of Wednesday.

Numbers don't lie.
Devers should be an All-Star, but at least the Red Sox can take comfort in the fact he's having a breakout season, which is helping give fans hope amid a disappointing 2019 for Boston overall.
