Twenty years after hosting the MLB All-Star Game, the Boston Red Sox are looking to bring the midsummer classic back to Fenway Park.

Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said Friday the organization has been in talks with the league about the possibility of Boston hosting the event in the near future.

“We would love to have an All-Star Game,” Kennedy said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the MGM Music Hall at Fenway, per Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe. “In fact, I talked to some of the folks at MLB last week about the possibility.

“We need to work and figure out a time that would work for the convention centers. But we’ve told MLB that we would like to host.”

The 1999 All-Star Game was an unforgettable one for Red Sox fans as it'll be remembered for Pedro Martinez's sensational performance as the American League's starting pitcher. The legendary right-hander struck out five National League hitters in two innings. You can relive that moment below:

If Boston does indeed host another All-Star Game within the next few years, it'll likely happen between 2022 and 2025. Los Angeles will host the event in 2020, followed by Atlanta in 2021. Earlier this year it was announced Philadelphia will host the 2026 All-Star Game.
