Red Sox vs. Tigers lineups: Eduardo Rodriguez starts, Michael Chavis at second base

The Boston Red Sox's homestand could not have started off worse.

First, rain washed out Monday night's game against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park, forcing these teams to play a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday. The Tigers won both games, dropping the Sox to 9-15 and a half-game out of last place in the American League East.

The Red Sox will turn to Eduardo Rodriguez for Thursday night's matchup. The left-handed starter has struggled to begin 2019, posting a 1-2 record with a 7.20 ERA, 21 strikeouts and seven walks over 20 innings. Rodriguez gave up seven hits and four runs (three earned) in 5 1/3 innings during his last outing on April 19, but he did not factor into the decision.

The Tigers will start right-hander Tyson Ross, who was unlucky not to pick up a win in his last outing versus the Chicago White Sox.

Top prospect Michael Chavis remains in Boston's lineup. He will play second base and bat seventh. Chavis blasted his first Major League home run in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader. J.D. Martinez has been among the few bright spots for the Red Sox this season, but he struggled in Tuesday's doubleheader with one hit and four strikeouts in eight at-bats. He's batting cleanup as the designated hitter Wednesday.
