The Boston Red Sox couldn't hold off the New York Yankees on Friday night, falling in extra innings to drop the first of three games at Fenway Park.
Martin Perez was brilliant as the starter for Boston. The left-hander tossed six shutout innings allowing only three hits and striking out seven.
Christian Arroyo did most of the damage offensively for Boston, crushing a three-run homer in the fourth inning. The Yankees notched six runs against the Red Sox bullpen, however, including a game-tying Gery Sanchez homer in the ninth and a game-winning hit from D.J. LeMahieu in the 12th.
