Red Sox lineup for Opening Day vs. Yankees is absolutely loaded

The Boston Red Sox don't have the most talented or deepest pitching staff, but their offense should provide plenty of run support throughout the 2022 MLB season.

We'll get our first look at Boston's loaded lineup Friday afternoon when the Red Sox play their Opening Day game against the rival New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

There aren't any major surprises in the first lineup of the year. Kike Hernandez is leading off with Rafael Devers right behind him. Newly acquired second baseman Trevor Story is batting sixth.

The Red Sox also will send Nathan Eovaldi to the mound. He is Boston's most reliable pitcher and the ace of the staff, especially with Chris Sale out of action because of injury. The Yankees will counter with their ace, Gerrit Cole. His last start came in the AL Wild Card Game last season when he gave up three runs and four hits over two innings in a loss to the Red Sox.
