HOUSTON — An Astros employee may have been attempting to spy on the Red Sox, according to a report from Metro Boston. A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed the report as accurate to NBC Sports Boston.

Furthermore, the Astros’ behavior is suspected to extend beyond an isolated incident, a separate baseball source said.

"In the third inning of the first game of the series, security removed a man claiming to be an Astros employee from the media-credentialed area next to the Boston Red Sox dugout, according to multiple security sources who were on the scene at the time of the incident,” reported Danny Picard for Metro. “The man had a small camera and was texting frequently, but did not have a media credential.”

Picard’s report included an acknowledgment from Major League Baseball about the matter.

The Red Sox and Astros had no comment when reached by NBC Sports Boston. Major League Baseball reiterated its stance to NBC Sports Boston: “We are aware of the matter and it will be handled internally."
