Major League Baseball's nightmare scenario is playing out just four days into the 2020 regular season.
The Miami Marlins' home opener against the Baltimore Orioles has been canceled after eight players and two coaches tested positive for COVID-19, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Monday.
Three Marlins players learned they had tested positive for COVID-19 prior to their game Sunday against the Phillies in Philadelphia, The Athletic's Jayson Stark and Ken Rosenthal reported. Miami also scratched Jose Urena from his scheduled start Sunday, but the teams played anyway, with the Marlins earning an 11-6 win.

Now, the Marlins will stay in Philadelphia to undergo testing instead of traveling to Miami to play Baltimore, which just completed a three-game series with the Red Sox in Boston.
A potential COVID-19 outbreak obviously is a major concern for MLB. Not only would the Phillies be at risk after playing the Marlins on Sunday, but the New York Yankees are scheduled to play in Philadelphia on Monday and occupy the same visitors' locker room that Miami did Sunday.

The Yankees are scheduled to host the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium beginning Friday after their three-game series in Philly.
The Red Sox play the Marlins four times this season, but the teams' first meeting isn't until Sept. 14.
UPDATE (10:45 a.m. ET): The Yankees' game in Philadelphia on Monday also has been canceled, per Rosenthal.
