Sale's stomach problem? He says it was his belly button ring

There have been plenty of bizarre injuries in baseball history. Wade Boggs once said hurt his back putting his cowboy boots on. The Twins' Marty Cordova burned himself in a tanning bed. Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer cut his finger on his drone.

Add Chris Sale's belly button ring to the list.

The stomach issue that sent the Red Sox ace to Massachusetts General Hospital on Sunday night? It was irritation from a belly button ring. At least that's what Sale told reporters at the Red Sox pre-World Series workout at Fenway Park on Saturday.

Is this just Sale's version of Kyrie Irving telling us the world is flat?

While it drew laughs and reporters and a Red Sox spokesman thought the pitcher was joking, Sale never laughed and delivered the news with a straight face.

Sale said he pitched a bullpen session Saturday at Fenway and should be ready to start Game 1 against either the Los Angeles Dodgers or Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of the Series Tuesday night at Fenway. The deciding Game 7 of the National League Championship Series is Saturday night.
