Struggling Red Sox way off last year's World Series pace

Even though Dave Dombrowski and the Red Sox brought back most of the 2018 World Series champions, this 2019 team has failed to repeat last year's historic 108-win dominance.

After Sunday's 6-1 loss at home to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Sox dropped to 42-37. At this point last year, Boston was 52-27, 10 games better. Even more stunning, last year's championship team didn't lose its 37th game until August 19, and the loss made them 88-37, per baseball stats guru Jeremy Frank.

Last year, Boston played its best ball at Fenway, going 57-24 (.704) at home. In 2019, however, they've been better on the road (24-18) than at home. In fact, Boston enters a three-game home series versus the Chicago White Sox with a losing home record (18-19).

As of Monday, the Red Sox are in third place in the AL East, eight games behind the first place Yankees. They wouldn't make the playoffs if the season ended today. Time and time again, these Sox appear to turn a corner, only to disappoint and revert to lackluster performance.
