The Boston Red Sox infielder led off Thursday afternoon's game against the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park with a home run to give his team an early 1-0 lead.

Hernandez has belted three leadoff homers in the last five games, including this blast, which is his ninth home run of the 2021 season overall. The 29-year-old veteran was batting .236 with 24 RBI, a .714 OPS and a .301 on-base percentage entering Thursday.
Hernandez isn't just getting the job done at the plate. His defense has been stellar, too, as seen Wednesday night when he made a spectacular catch at the warning track in a Red Sox victory over the Royals.
Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom has made many additions to the roster over the last year or so, and so far Hernandez is shaping up to be one of several success stories.
