When will 2018 Red Sox investigation end? Rob Manfred shares hopeful timetable

Major League Baseball still hasn't ruled on its investigation into the 2018 Boston Red Sox for their alleged sign-stealing operation.

That ruling could come within a week, however.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday he hopes the league can reach a resolution before the Red Sox begin spring training.

"I’m hopeful I can get Boston done before the camps open," Manfred said, via Newsday's Erik Boland. "I’d like to have this over."

Manfred couldn't provide a more solid timeframe than that, though.

"Investigations are funny," he added. "You think you know what the timeline is but that’s a day-to-day prediction."

Pitchers and catchers report to Red Sox spring training next Tuesday, Feb. 11, with the club's first workout set for Wednesday, Feb. 12. Manfred apparently hopes the league can wrap things up before those dates.

The Red Sox are being investigated for allegedly using a video replay room to illegally relay signs to hitters during their 2018 World Series campaign.

Friday will mark one month since MLB announced it was investigating Boston on Jan. 7, and the delay has hindered the club's search for a manager to replace Alex Cora as it awaits potential punishment of any of its staffers.

Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez said recently he believes Boston will be exonerated by the investigation, while Lou Merloni reportedly that Boston believes it will get off "scot-free." We'll supposedly find out who's right in the next few days.
