Yankees' Gregorius suffers potential season-ending wrist injury

The New York Yankees, arch rival of the Red Sox and potential ALDS opponent, may have lost their shortstop to a season ending wrist injury.

Aaron Boone told reporters Sunday that Didi Gregorius tore cartilage in his right wrist by sliding in to home Saturday, potentially ending his season right before the playoffs.

Gregorious is hitting .268 this season with 27 home runs and 86 RBI.

The Yankees were out of the race for the AL East by the end of July, but now they're in a tight battle for home-field advantage with the Oakland A's in the AL Wild Card game.

Losing Gregorius might diminish the Yankees' hopes of home field for the Wild Card and advancing in the playoffs altogether.
