Revolution Classics: Taylor Twellman notches second career hat trick

With no MLS games for the foreseeable future, NBC Sports Boston will give New England Revolution fans a chance to get their fix by re-airing some classic games. On Saturday, we'll take a look back at when Taylor Twellman's hat trick led the Revs to a 3-2 victory over FC Dallas.

Even though they fell short against the L.A. Galaxy in MLS Cup, 2005 was a banner year for the New England Revolution.

The campaign featured a 17-7-8 record, setting team records for both wins and points (59). And Taylor Twellman led the way with arguably the greatest individual season in franchise history.

Twellman earned the Golden Boot with 17 goals, adding MVP and All-Star Game MVP honors along the way. He also added two of his three career hat tricks — the first of which came against FC Dallas on July 16.

Revolution eliminated from MLS is Back tournament after 1-0 loss to Union

The New England Revolution were eliminated from the MLS is Back tournament Saturday night as they suffered a 1-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union.

Sergio Santos scored in the 63rd minute to propel Philadelphia to the quarterfinals and snap the Revs' four-match unbeaten streak.

With midfielder Carles Gil out due to a foot injury, the Revs failed to get anything going offensively. Frustration boiled over after the game as New England coach Bruce Arena was handed a red card, presumably for comments made to the officials.

The Union will play the winner of Sunday’s match between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Sporting Kansas City on Thursday.

After their loss, the Revolution now are 1-1-3 with six points in regular season and 1-2-3 overall.
