Revolution goalkeeper throws hat into the ring for Patriots kicker job

Revolution goalkeeper throws hat into the ring for Patriots kicker job

After placing veteran kicker Stephen Gostkowski on season-ending injured reserve on Wednesday, the Patriots worked out a few possible replacements.

They may have overlooked one, however, who also happens to work at Gillette Stadium.

New England Revolution goalkeeper Brad Knighton took to Twitter to make his best pitch to be the new Pats kicker.

It seems like he has a pretty solid case.

All jokes aside, now probably wouldn't be the best time for Knighton to leave the Revolution, who have clinched a playoff berth.

Knighton, 34, signed a new contract with the Revs in August that will make him one of the longest-tenured players in team history.

As for realistic replacements for Gostkowski, Kai Forbath and Mike Nugent were among the notable names to work out with the Pats in Foxboro on Wednesday.

Revolution re-sign young defender DeJuan Jones to new deal

Revolution re-sign young defender DeJuan Jones to new deal

The New England Revolution continue to make transactions during a busy off-season.

The Revs announced Friday they have re-signed 22-year-old defender DeJuan Jones, who will be entering his second MLS season. Jones appeared in 20 games, including 14 starts during his rookie year, notching a goal and an assist while holding down the fort on the back end.

He was drafted 11th overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft out of Michigan State University, where he tallied 16 goals and 14 assists over 75 appearances for the Spartans.

The Jones deal comes after Bruce Arena's squad added highly-experienced left back Alexander Büttner and signed 16-year-old midfielder Damian Rivera to a homegrown player contract.

But while the Revolution are busy adding players, forward Juan Fernando Caicedo reportedly will be leaving the organization, according to ESPN, after a one-year loan from Independiente Medellin of Colombia.

After an exciting turnaround that saw the team make the 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs, more is in store for the rising Revolution.

After participating in the United States Men's National Team's pre-camp in Bradenton, Fla., New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner has earned a spot on the final 23-man roster.

Turner and the USMNT face must-win scenarios in both Concacaf Nations League matches in order to advance to the knockout stage.

Since joining the Revs in 2016, Turner is 16-14-16 with 170 saves and 10 shutouts. He signed a multi-year contract extension with New England on Aug. 21, 2019.
