The New England Revolution wasted little time finding a replacement for head coach Brad Friedel and general manager Michael Burns.
The Revolution on Tuesday named former U.S. Men's National team coach Bruce Arena their new head coach and sporting director.
The Revs parted ways with Burns on Monday and let Friedel go last Thursday.
Arena comes with a lengthy résumé highlighted by nearly a decade with the U.S. national team from 1998 to 2006. The 67-year-old also has 14 years experience as an MLS coach and owns a record five MLS Cup titles, three of which came with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
"Bruce is one of the most successful coaches in American soccer history, and we feel his commitment to excellence, track record of winning championships in Major League Soccer, as well as his success at the international level, makes him the best person to bring the Revolution back to MLS Cup contention," Revs Investor/Operator Robert Kraft said in a statement. "We have known Bruce dating back to the advent of MLS, and we have full confidence that he will raise the level of our club to the standard we all expect and demand.”
Arena will assume sporting director responsibilities immediately, but a date still isn't set for him to take over head coach duties. Mike Lapper currently is serving as interim coach for the Revs, who sit in last place in MLS' Eastern Conference at 3-8-2.
