Matt Turner is having a pretty good week.
This past Saturday, the Revs goalkeeper made a career-high nine saves, helping New England salvage a 1-1 tie and an all-important point in the playoff chase. And he followed that up on Wednesday by signing a multi-year contract extension.
“I'm thrilled to continue my career with the club that took a chance on me as an undrafted rookie from a small school, invested in my development, and gave me an opportunity to prove myself at this level,” Turner said in a team press release. “I can't wait to continue playing in front of The Fort, expand my work in the community, and hopefully bring a championship to this great city that I now consider my home.”
Turner has spent his entire MLS career with the Revs after joining the team as an undrafted player out of Fairfield in March 2016, and despite not making a single appearance in his first two seasons, he now ranks seventh in club history in both games started in goal and wins. This season, he's racked up a 6-2-4 record with 50 saves and three shutouts — and his save percentage (73.5) and winning percentage (.667) both rank among the top five of all MLS goalkeepers. Not bad for a player who didn't start the season as the team's starter.
“Since I arrived at the club earlier this year, Matt has been a consummate professional and an excellent ambassador for the Revolution on and off the field.” Revolution Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena said. “We hope to see Matt in a Revolution shirt for years to come, and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop as a goalkeeper and a leader in our locker room.”
