NBA Rumors: Cavs players upset over Kyle Korver's trade to Jazz

NBA Rumors: Cavs players upset over Kyle Korver's trade to Jazz

The LeBron James-era Cleveland Cavaliers are slowly being dismantled, and it doesn't sound like an enjoyable process.

The Cavs reportedly traded veteran forward Kyle Korver to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday for guard Alec Burks and two draft picks.

The trade hardly was a surprising move considering Cleveland is in a rebuild, but according to The Athletic's Joe Vardon, it still didn't go over well in the locker room.

Multiple Cavs players are upset with the trading of Korver, insofar as this is a team with very little outside shooting. ... Subtracting him from the team only makes it harder to win games, they feel.

Korver was playing just 15.7 minutes per game in Cleveland, but his 46.3 percent clip from 3-point range still stretched the floor on offense. With their sharpshooter gone and Kevin Love recovering from foot surgery, the 4-16 Cavs -- who visit TD Garden to play the Boston Celtics on Friday night -- likely will fall further into the Eastern Conference basement.

But that's the harsh reality of an NBA rebuild, which Vardon notes has been particularly hard on team veterans like Tristan Thompson, Channing Frye and J.R. Smith -- who reportedly is negotiating his own ticket out of town.

NBA Rumors: Cavs "dangled" this Markelle Fultz trade package to Sixers

NBA Rumors: Cavs "dangled" this Markelle Fultz trade package to Sixers

It's certainly looking like Markelle Fultz's future isn't in Philadelphia.

The 76ers guard remains sidelined with shoulder and wrist injuries, and a recent report suggested the 2017 No. 1 overall pick is no longer a part of Philly's long-term plans. Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders added fuel to that speculation Tuesday, reporting one NBA team already has made a preliminary trade proposal to the Sixers involving Fultz.

Other teams have been sniffing around the Fultz situation, with the Cleveland Cavaliers believed to have dangled a deal built around Kyle Korver and a protected draft pick.

The Cavs have their own first-round draft pick at point guard in rookie Collin Sexton. They're in full rebuild mode, however, and while Fultz comes with a high risk, he still has a high ceiling and could form a promising backcourt with Sexton if he can get healthy.

The Sixers, meanwhile, seem ready to move on from Fultz, with Kyler adding the team views Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Jimmy Butler as its future, with Fultz "not in the picture."

Philly may struggle to net a decent return for the 20-year-old, though, as one NBA executive said recently he'd be "surprised" if a team gave up a first-round pick to land Fultz.

NBA Rumors: 76ers 'highly interested' in Kyle Korver trade with Cavs

NBA Rumors: 76ers 'highly interested' in Kyle Korver trade with Cavs

The Philadelphia 76ers just used a few valuable trade assets to acquire star forward Jimmy Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves, but there's a chance Philly isn't done making moves to improve its roster for what it hopes is a deep playoff run this season.

Marc Stein of the New York Times reported Tuesday the 76ers "remain highly interested" in trading for Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kyle Korver.

This move would make sense for the Sixers, who are in dire need of more 3-point shooters, even after the Butler trade. J.J. Redick is the only elite outside shooter on the roster, and with Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz either unable or unwilling to stretch the floor with consistent outside shooting, Philly needs to address this weakness before the trade deadline.

The 76ers rank 20th in the league in 3-point shooting percentage despite being 10th in 3-point attempts per game. They shot well from the perimeter (14-for-29) in Butler's debut against the Orlando Magic -- a 111-106 loss -- on Wednesday night, but it's unlikely that success rate will continue.

Korver is shooting 38.7 percent on 3-point attempts this season, and he's a career 43.1 percent shooter from that range.

What would the 76ers need to give up to acquire Korver? Stein didn't specify, but given the likely rebuild coming in Cleveland during the post-LeBron James era, draft picks might be the best way to get the Cavs interested.
