Ex-Red Sox slugger Mike Napoli joins Cubs coaching staff

Yet another former member of the Boston Red Sox has joined the Chicago Cubs.

Former Sox slugger Mike Napoli has joined the Cubs as a quality assurance coach, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Napoli joins fellow 2013 World Series champion David Ross on the Cubs staff. Ross replaced Joe Maddon as Chicago's manager last month.

Ex-Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein has served as Cubs president of baseball operations for the last eight years. Former Sox pitching coach Dana LeVangie recently interviewed for the Cubs' bullpen coach job.

In three seasons as Boston's DH/first baseman, Napoli hit .242 with 53 home runs.

Jonny Gomes, 2013 Red Sox show Mike Napoli love after retirement

Mike Napoli only spent three seasons with the Boston Red Sox, but he certainly made his mark.

Almost immediately after Napoli announced his retirement from baseball Saturday on social media, several of his teammates from Boston's 2013 World Series championship squad chimed in to thank the slugger for the memories.

"My Main Main Man, My Ace In The Hole, My Brother.." ex-Red Sox outfielder Jonny Gomes wrote on Instagram. "Baseball brought us together and that 2013 ring will keep us together forever!! Congrats on a hell of a career!!!"

Gomes' tagged the post with some fitting photos of he and Napoli dumping champagne on each other after the Red Sox's playoff victories.

Also chiming in former catcher David Ross and pitcher Ryan Dempster, who appeared to think similarly of their ex-teammate.

Napoli racked up seven RBIs during the 2013 playoffs and delivered some clutch hits to help Boston's "bearded brothers" win it all.

Just as important, he knew how to celebrate those victories properly.

Mike Napoli is celebrating MLB retirement exactly how you'd expect

Mike Napoli's playing career is over, but the party has just begun.

The former Boston Red Sox slugger announced his retirement from baseball Saturday on social media.

And about 10 minutes after his announcement, Napoli fired off his first post-baseball Instagram post from -- you guessed it -- a bar.

Red Sox fans who have seen the iconic photo of Napoli walking shirtless down Boylston Street following Boston's 2013 World Series victory won't be surprised in the least that the 37-year-old is celebrating his retirement with some victuals.

To which we say: Toss 'em back, Mike. You deserve it.
