Malcolm Mitchell describes what it was like playing with Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and Bill Belichick

Malcolm Mitchell describes what it was like playing with Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and Bill Belichick

Recently retired Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell looks back fondly on his brief but valuable experience playing in New England.

On the latest episode of "The Michael Holley Podcast" presented by Night Shift Brewing, Mitchell described what it was like to play with Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and Bill Belichick.

"What makes him so different is his commitment," Mitchell said of Brady. "Most people see sport as 'oh, this is something you do.' I think Tom has transcended that into something completely different, as in 'no, this is a way of life.' There is no offseason because this is me 24/7 every day of the year."

As for playing alongside Gronk, who also retired this offseason?

"Electrifying," Mitchell said. "The way he electrifies a group -- I think he's the best football player I've ever seen play the game. There was nothing you could do to stop him ... I just have not seen that kind of dominance ever."

While Mitchell soaked up the experience of playing with two of the best to ever do it in Brady and Gronk, he learned valuable lessons from Coach Belichick.

"Accountability," Mitchell said of what Belichick taught him in New England. "There are things I don't think he realized he was doing for me as an individual ... The level of accountability that he enforces is -- it makes you grow as an individual. You don't have a choice."

Mitchell also talked about his role in the Pats' Super Bowl LI comeback against the Falcons, his decision to retire from the NFL, and the importance of his literacy foundation "Read with Malcolm."
