Ex-Revolution forward Juan Agudelo selected by Toronto FC in MLS re-entry draft

Ex-Revolution forward Juan Agudelo selected by Toronto FC in MLS re-entry draft

Former New England Revolution forward Juan Agudelo was selected by Toronto FC in stage two of the MLS re-entry draft Tuesday afternoon.

The 27-year-old's option for the 2020 season had been declined by the Revolution last month, making him eligible to be picked up by another club. Toronto now owns Agudelo's rights, and it's to be determined if he'll actually play for the team next season. If he does, he'll join the very talented Jozy Altidore and could combine for a nice one-two punch up front for Toronto.

The striker has 46 goals and 22 assists in 215 MLS regular-season appearances. He tallied three goals on 37 shots last season with the Revolution. He scored a career-high eight goals with New England in 2017.

He's being lauded for his hard work, determination, and sense of humor by New England fans across social media.

Agudelo was signed by the New York Red Bulls in 2010 to a homegrown player contract and remained with the club until 2012 before moving on to Chivas USA. He had been with the Revs since 2013.

On top of his MLS career, he's made 28 appearances for the US National Team.

Another Caldwell? Revolution select goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell in MLS Waiver Draft

Another Caldwell? Revolution select goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell in MLS Waiver Draft

Following the re-signing of defender Michael Mancienne, the New England Revolution added a goalkeeper early Monday evening.

The Revolution selected Jeff Caldwell with the third overall pick in the 2019 MLS End-of-Year Waiver Draft -- and no, he's not related to Revolution midfielder Scott Caldwell. Caldwell was selected after New England sent it's 11th overall pick and a 2020 second-round MLS SuperDraft pick to Orlando SC to move up in the draft.

New England now owns the 23-year-old's rights and can begin contract negotiations with the keeper who has two MLS seasons under his belt.

Caldwell was selected with the 19th pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by New York City FC following his four-year collegiate career at the University of Virginia. He made 28 appearances for Memphis 901 of the USL Championship league following a loan from NYCFC.

While Matt Turner will more than likely continue to be the Revs' starter, Caldwell could provide a steady backup presence. Considering they selected Caldwell third overall, the Revolution possibly could see him as a starter some day.

Revolution re-sign Michael Mancienne, continue solidifying back line

Revolution re-sign Michael Mancienne, continue solidifying back line

The New England Revolution will have pretty good defense corps to begin the 2020 season.

New England re-signed defender Michael Mancienne to a new deal Monday afternoon.

This will be Mancienne's third season with the Revolution after joining the team in 2018. The 31-year-old has appeared in 26 games with 23 starts and has registered one goal. During the 2019 season Mancienne injured his foot and missed time, but still managed to appear in 16 games.

Mancienne is a native of England and has professional experience in the English Premier League and German Bundesliga. He's spent time with Chelsea, Wolverhampton, Queens Park Rangers, Hamburger SV and Nottingham Forest.

The signing comes after the Revs re-signed defenders DeJuan Jones, Brandon Bye and added Alexander Buttner. They also signed 16-year-old midfielder Damian Rivera to a homegrown player contract.

While they continue bolstering their defense, New England also saw defender Jalil Anibaba depart the organization following his selection by Nashville SC in the MLS Expansion draft.

Despite Anibaba's departure, the Revolution's defense is looking solid ahead of the 2020 season.
