Patriots 53-man roster projection: Offensive line trades affect outlook

Odds were that the Patriots probably had a pretty good idea of how their 53-man roster would be constructed well before Thursday night. But one of the benefits of the preseason finale is that it's one last opportunity for players to do something to make their case for a job — whether that's in New England or elsewhere.

Were there active-roster spots, or more likely practice-squad spots, determined when the Patriots and Giants squared off a week before the NFL officially kicks off its 100th season? Were there clues dropped by the coaching staff in terms of how they view the long-term prospects for certain players?

Let's do some digging here with our final 53-man roster projection of the summer...

In Phil Perry's last 53-man Patriots roster projection, Phillip Dorsett was on the chopping block while young receivers Jakobi Meyers and Braxton Berrios found their way onto the roster.

But after Thursday night's game against the Panthers, things have changed. Tom Brady's chemistry with Dorsett was apparent as the solid yet unspectacular wideout had seven catches on the night.

With questions at the position, having a trusted option for Brady is crucial, as Tom E. Curran explained Friday.

Dorsett's push for a roster spot isn't the only new development, as Brandon King reported season-ending injury opens up another spot. So how do things shake out with one preseason game left?

Patriots 53-man roster projection: Josh Gordon shakes things up

Patriots 53-man roster projection: Josh Gordon shakes things up

For players on the Patriots' roster bubble, time is running short to make a strong impression on the coaching staff.

Two preseason games are already in the books, and the deadline to cut rosters down to 53 is quickly approaching. But performances in practice and game situations aren't the only things affecting Phil Perry's 53-man Patriots roster projection.

With the NFL reinstating Josh Gordon on Friday, how does that affect things? Dontrelle Inman has already been released, and Gordon could shake things up even more if he's ready to go in early September. Also, with Jarrett Stidham continuing to perform well in preseason action, is he still third on the quarterback depth chart, or could Brian Hoyer find himself on the chopping block?
