Sam Adams drops special Bruins-themed beer for Stanley Cup Final

It’s Stanley Cup season in Boston, and local brewery Samuel Adams knows it.

In honor of the Bruins being two wins away from hoisting the Stanley Cup, Sam Adams has released a limited edition beer, the Black & Gold, in advance of Monday's Game 4.

According to the flagship brand of Boston Beer Company, the Bruins-themed cans will contain a "4.9% ABV, deep ruby black, medium-bodied lager with chocolate notes, a hint of coffee and a slightly sweet and roasted malt flavor."

The beers, which are sold in four-packs of 16-ounce cans, went on sale at 3 p.m. ET at Sam Adams’ brewery in Jamaica Plain.

Boston and St. Louis have developed a longstanding sports relationship throughout the years, as a Boston team in each major sport has defeated a St. Louis squad in the championship. That sports dichotomy has (apparently) extended to food. Last week, Boston Globe and St. Louis Dispatch food critics debated which city’s culinary scene has the upper hand. Before long, Sam Adams got involved, and sent a care package including Black & Golds to St. Louis to sway the food critic’s mind.

On the ice, the Bruins hold a 2-1 advantage thanks to a 7-2 onslaught in Game 3. When the Cup Final is tied 1-1, the winner of Game 3 has gone on to win it all nearly 80% of the time.

Last year, when Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin won his first Stanley Cup, he urged fans to grab some beer and start partying. All of New England is hoping for one of their favorite players to make a similar declaration, and Samuel Adams is hoping fans choose Black & Golds.
