Sean McDermott on bulletin board material: Bills will ‘go through process the right way'

Before the Buffalo Bills' game against the New England Patriots, Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins decided to take some shots at the Patriots.

Dawkins said that the Bills "didn't care what (the Patriots) had done in games" to start the season and that the Patriots hadn't played them yet. Instead of motivating the Bills, Dawkins' comments backfired and motivated the Patriots.

And after the Bills' 16-10 loss, their head coach Sean McDermott spoke about giving the Patriots bulletin board material and said the team would put their "best foot forward" from here on out.

"We talk about those things a lot in terms of making sure that we go through the process the right way, and that's continuing to develop our young players and continuing to put our best foot forward every week," McDermott said per Prescott Rossi of WROC-TV.

In retrospect, Dawkins likely regrets taking a shot at the Patriots' elite defense that has only allowed 27 total points through four games this season. The Patriots defense responded to the challenge, which Duron Harmon told Phil Perry the defense "definitely heard", and was largely able to keep the Bills' offense in check. They made Josh Allen's day was a nightmare and forced him to turn the ball over and take sacks on numerous occasions.

We'll see if the Bills have learned their lesson about trash-talking the Patriots when they face off again in Week 16. But it's safe to assume that Dawkins won't be saying much ahead of that contest.
