Who would've guessed the Chicago Bears would come away from the 2020 NFL Draft with three fifth-round selections. But after the selection of Tulane wide receiver Darnell Mooney, that's exactly what happened.
Mooney (5-foot-10, 176) ran a 4.38 at the 2020 NFL Combine; he has speed for days. Mooney finished the 2019 season with 48 catches for 713 yards and five touchdowns. His college resume is littered with big plays, including touchdown receptions of 86, 79 and 55 yards (all in 2018, per NFL.com's Lance Zierlein). His lack of size is a concern, but speed kills in the NFL. The Bears need a jolt of speed in their passing game, and maybe Mooney will be the guy who provides it.
Here's how Twitter reacted to the pick:

Bears get their field stretcher and burner In WR Darnell Mooney. The most underrated WR in the draft. If you wanted K.J Hamler. He gives you the reason why you wanted him. In space he can house call it at any time.— Mike Brez (@mikebrez5) April 25, 2020
#Tulane's Darnell Mooney goes to Chicago in 5th round with No. 173 pick. Helped himself tremendously with 4.38 40 at combine, the fifth fastest among wideouts there. Highest Wave pick since Lorenzo Doss went No. 164 in 2015.— Guerry Smith (@Guersmith) April 25, 2020

People love the Darnell Mooney pick and the Bears needed that speedy WR so it looks like they got it. Good pick and if we can end with Anthony Gordon I would be so ecstatic.— BK (@bvks_) April 25, 2020

Ran a 4.38 at the combine and is the perfect replacement for Taylor Gabriel.
