5 fantasy waiver wire players to target for Week 8

Share

As we push into the latter half of the fantasy season, optimizing your lineup could be the difference between making a deep in the playoffs and missing out on the postseason entirely. While you probably shouldn’t be doing major restructuring like you may have around weeks four and five, little tweaks can help you navigate byes and injuries. So without further ado, here are guys who should be at the top of your waiver claims list.

Here’s the writeup from Week 5 when Chris Carson was questionable. With the exact same situation arising again, a copy-paste is in order: If Chris Carson misses a week or two, Hyde figures to be the main running back to absorb his carries, and targets. He’s already shown he can catch the ball out of the backfield, so he shouldn’t have far to go to earn Pete Carroll’s trust. Last year with Houston, Hyde ran for over 1,000 yards as the man behind David Johnson, so there’s reason to believe he can be a real fantasy contributor.

With Raheem Mostert and now Jeff Wilson nursing injuries, Hasty looks to be the man to split carries with Jerick McKinnon. Deebo Samuel is back on the mend too, so his gadget plays won’t eat into rushes for San Francisco’s running backs. Only two teams have rushed the ball more times than the Niners, so Hasty could be in line for a decent workload even though he started the season on the practice squad.

When Odell Beckham Jr. left last Sunday’s game it wasn’t Jarvis Landry who soaked up the extra targets, it was rookie Rashard Higgins. He delivered for the Browns as well, catching all six of his targets for 110 yards.

After Week 7 it’s clear: Carson Wentz loves targeting tight ends, no matter who lines up at tight end. With both Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert down, Rodgers got his chance and came down with six catches for 85 yards. Up next for the Eagles is the Cowboys’ susceptible defense making Rodgers a legit streaming option for Week 8.

With teams focusing more and more on Stefon Diggs, Beasley has quietly and consistently put up great numbers. Believe it or not, Beasley currently sits as the WR28. Yet he’s rostered in fewer leagues than DJ Chark (93%, WR31), Michael Gallup (77%, WR35), Julian Edelman (70%, WR48), Mike Williams (60%, WR59), and teammate John Brown (59%, WR62). That should change.

Burton will be a popular add as he racked up 58 yards and a score at the thin tight end position in the Colts’ last game. But that one score came on a gimmicky wildcat play that defenses will be ready for next time. There’s a chance Mo Allie-Cox returns from injury in Week 8, as well, cutting into Burton’s floor and ceiling.
