6 QB options Bears could explore in 2021

The Bears' QB situation is dire. Is there a legitimate fix out there?

Would there be anything more fitting in the Ryan Pace/Matt Nagy era than trading for the hometown kid whose win-loss record (24-8) is wildly misleading and not really at all indicative of how he's played? Why it probably isn't likely: his salary pays him north of $25 million in each of the next two seasons, and the Bears are *already* spending something close to that on a QB who's underachieving in their offense. But the rumor mill's long connected Garoppolo and the Bears, because Chicago loves nothing more than a Local Kid story.

From a football perspective, Winston's in an interesting position. He'll be a free agent this offseason, and you can bet the farm that his agent will have the 'Studied Under Drew Brees For A Year' narrative ready to roll out, not unlike what they did with the 'Lasik Eye Surgery Will Prevent Him From Throwing 30 Ints Again' routine. New Orleans may view him as the successor to Brees, but if they don't, a short term deal wouldn't totally be unrealistic in Chicago. People may fairly wonder if the personality would fit in the Bears' locker room, but it seems to be just fine in New Orleans

It's felt like Brissett's days in Indianapolis have been numbered for a while now, and he's another guy that could buy the Bears a year or two of decent play while they draft and develop The Guy. He hasn't won a lot, but he takes care of the ball (13 INTs in 31 career starts), and would be a clear upgrade over Foles or Mitch Trubisky. He's also never had a whole lot of job security, having been on teams with Tom Brady and Andrew Luck. In Chicago, it'd be fully his job for at least a season, and maybe more.

The big debate in Chicago last offseason was Cam Newton vs. Nick Foles, and as it turns out, neither has been particularly good. According to ESPN, Newton's QBR (44.7) and EPA (17.6) have actually been worse than Foles' this season, which is especially head-turning considering how poor Foles has played. That may be a blessing in disguise, though; Newton not getting a starter's contract this spring would play right into the Bears' cash-strapped hands. As far as dice rolls go (which these all are), Newton's an intriguing one.

Fun fact: 25 football games ago, Dwayne Haskins was playing high school football in southern Maryland. He's clearly not Ron Rivera's QB of the future in Washington – which is about the only clear thing of Haskins' career so far. He has two more affordable years, and a club option, left on his rookie contract, which makes a trade all the more appealing. That being said, an aging Bears defense and warming seats for Pace/Nagy may scare the team off from another developmental project.

Dak Prescott ain't happening. He's going to get PAID, and even if it's not in Dallas – which it will be – it won't be in Chicago. The next best thing would be lucking into drafting someone like Prescott, who was undervalued out of Mississippi State and went in the 4th round. Realistically the Bears won't have a shot at QBs 3-5 in next year's draft, but after that? Florida's Kyle Trask, perhaps? Georgia's Jamie Newman, maybe? Whoever it is, bring them into camp and let them compete with (presumably) Foles right away.
