Bears a ‘team to keep an eye on' in Carson Wentz trade

Another day, another Carson Wentz rumor and another mention of the Bears.

Trade rumors and reports surrounding Wentz keep picking up steam, and they keep connecting the Eagles and Bears.

This time, Ian Rapoport from a hit on NFL Network linking the Bears to Wentz.

"My understanding is they are receiving significant interest from teams about potential acquiring the former starter in Philly," Rapoport said. "Two big time teams to keep an eye on, the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts. Both of them have been in contact with the Eagles."

Rapoport says the Eagles have talked about keeping Wentz, but noted the longer trade rumors and discussion linger the more likely a trade comes to fruition.

There were also reports that the Bears and Eagles were close to a trade for Wentz on Saturday night.

Bears fans are a bit traumatized when it comes to quarterback saviors. They've seen their general manager Ryan Pace give a ton of money to Mike Glennon, draft Mitch Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson and recently, trading for Nick Foles.

So with the names out there on the quarterback market, like Watson requesting a trade or the Panthers offering up Teddy Bridgewater to Detroit for Matthew Stafford, Wentz is an uninspiring option in the eyes of fans.

He had a rough 2020 season and no Bears fan is viewing him as the missing piece. If he can regain his form from the season that ended in a Super Bowl win, by Nick Foles, then things could be different but it's a gamble and that's what has fans upset. They want certainty.
