Bears' Pringle sees Fields as ‘an elite quarterback'

While Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney practiced getting in some reps Thursday in Atlanta, Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles secured two new wide receivers.

The Bears gave one-year contracts to unrestricted free agents Equanimeous St. Brown, formerly with the Green Bay Packers, and Byron Pringle, who spent the last four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, Poles' former team.

"Byron is a grinder who brings toughness and dependability," said Poles after officially signing Pringle on Sunday. "He not only improves our offense, but will also impact our special teams."

The Bears brought aboard Pringle on a one-year, $6,000,000 contract, including $4,000,000 guaranteed, according to Spotrac.com.

Pringle won Super Bowl LIV with Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback and now looks to be the starting two or three receiver for second-year Fields.

"I see him as an elite quarterback," Pringle said. "He definitely knows how to extend plays, and that is something that I did in Kansas City [with Mahomes]. When the play broke down, I always tried to get in the quarterback's vision. So with [Fields] being able to keep plays and drives alive, I know I fit perfect in this offense, especially with a quarterback like Justin Fields."

Last regular season, Pringle finished with 568 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He added 82 receiving yards and three touchdowns for the Chiefs in the postseason.

Pringle is both excited to be Fields' newest receiver as well as reuniting with Poles. Poles was the Chiefs college scouting coordinator in 2018 and signed Pringle as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State.

Pringle said he was happy when Chicago called him and believes Poles sees him as a high-level competitor with a 1-0 mentality of coming to win.

"I don't care about numbers," Pringle said. "I want that letter at the end of the game, that 'W.'"
