Bears' Cole Kmet, a Cubs fan, worked out for the White Sox in high school

White Sox fans have plenty of young stars to be excited about, so it's probably in Chicago's best interest that Cole Kmet stuck with football.

Kmet, the highly-touted tight end that the Bears took in the 2nd round of this year's NFL Draft, once had grand visions of playing baseball in Chicago. So much so, in fact, that he worked out for the White Sox right after he graduated high school. On the latest episode of the Bears' Meet The Rookies video series, Kmet – who's actually a Cubs fan – briefly chats about what the experience of working out at Guaranteed Rate Field:

I was talking to the White Sox for a little bit after my senior year of high school before the MLB Draft that summer. So I got to work out there at Guaranteed Rate, which was pretty cool. And even though I’m a Cubs fan, that was a lot of fun for me. To be able to experience that was pretty cool.

With the increasing likelihood that the NFL season isn't going to start on time, maybe the White Sox can throw Kmet on their taxi squad? Who, besides the Bears, wouldn't enjoy watching that? The MLB season is already going to be weird enough, let's just lean in; we need more athletes playing multiple sports in the same city.  If Michael Jordan can return from space in time to help the White Sox (yes I know technically it was the Barons whatever) we can get Cole Kmet from Lake Forest to GRF.
