Kmet: ‘There was no green or yellow in my house' as kid

Former Chicago Bears fan Cole Kmet is now current Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet, and we here in Illinois just love it. He grew up with the Bears-Packers rivalry and now gets to play in it? Honestly it's almost unfair. The Bears, of course, made him available in the lead up to his first Packers game at Soldier Field, and the rookie tight end talked about what life was like wrapped up in this rivalry:

"You know obviously growing up as a fan, it’s just a big game every year because I think this is the most historic rivalry in the National Football League," Kmet said. "So as a fan obviously from afar on Sunday you’re getting ready for it and what not. As a player, the lead-up to this is pretty exciting, and we all know the meaning behind it and the history behind it. The preparation for the whole week, you feel it – like we’re feeling it this whole week, and we’re all really excited to go, so it’s going to be a lot of fun this Sunday."

He was then, of course, asked to go through his rolodex of Bears memories; he remembers watching the Week 17 loss in 2013, but not where he was or who he was watching with because, as he said, "oh jeez ... that was a while ago.' He also doesn't remember where he was for the 2011 NFC Championship game, and now this kind of just sounds like a coping mechanism?

" All those Bears-Packers games were a big deal in my house and with all my friends," he added. "There was no green or yellow in my house, so, we'll leave it at that."

I thought I was being wise by looking up what color his high school jerseys were, but turns out even those were not terribly far off from Bears colors. There really may not have been any green or yellow in his house. We'll also leave it at that.
