Bears draft left tackle Braxton Jones in 5th round

With the No. 168 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Bears selected Braxton Jones, an offensive tackle from Southern Utah. From 2019-2021, Jones played 1,500 snaps at left tackle, according to PFF. Of those 1,500 snaps, 921 were pass blocking snaps. And on those 921 snaps, Jones surrendered three sacks.

Even though the Bears waited over two and a half hours to make their first pick on Saturday, it was a very busy morning. Ryan Poles made four trades to give the team five extra picks. It started with a deal to send a 2023 sixth-round pick to the Chargers in exchange for two 2022 seventh-rounders. The Bears made two more moves in quick succession in the fifth round. First, Poles sent the No. 148 pick to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for Nos. 168 and 203. Then, he moved down from No. 150 to pick up the Nos. 166 and 207 picks from the Texans. Finally (at least for now), Poles agreed to send the No. 166 pick to Cincinnati for Nos. 174 and 226.

Phew.

On Day 2, the Bears added cornerback Kyler Gordon, safety Jaquan Brisker and wide receiver/return specialist Velus Jones.
