Bears expected to bring back Brad Childress as consultant

Matt Nagy appears to be brining back an old friend for the offseason.

The Bears are expected to bring back former Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress as an offensive assistant and consultant.

Childress held the same role last offseason, parting ways at the end of training camp. He helped the Bears transition to Nagy’s new offense, offering another bright mind from the Andy Reid coaching tree.

Nagy and “Chilly” worked together on the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013 to 2017 as an analyst and later assistant head coach.

Childress was set to be the head coach of the Atlanta Legends in the Alliance of American Football league this spring, but he backed out of the commitment in January.

Now he’s set to return to Chicago to help bring the Bears offense to the next level in 2019. It isn’t clear what his consulting role will look like this time around, but Nagy clearly values his input in building the offense, and it sure worked well in 2018.
