Bears dip into NCAA ranks to find new running backs coach

Matt Nagy continues to fill out his 2021 coaching staff. On Thursday morning, the team announced they’d hired Michael Pitre to act as their new running backs coach.

Prior to joining the Bears, Pitre worked as Oregon State’s running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. During his tenure there, from 2018-2020, the Beavers averaged 165.8 rushing yards a game, and scored a total of 59 touchdowns. In addition, he helped Jermar Jefferson win AP’s Pac-12 Co-Offensive Player of the Year award in 2020.

Pitre is also familiar with current Bears running back Artavis Pierce. In 2019, Pierce led the Beavers with 873 yards on 146 carries, good for a 6.0 YPC average.

The move fills the void that was left when Charles London joined Arthur Smith’s staff with the Atlanta Falcons.
