Help is coming for the Bears on the offensive line. Jason Peters told the media on Tuesday that rookie tackle Larry Borom will be rejoining the team sometime this week, with fellow rookie tackleTeven Jenkins returning in “a couple more weeks.”
Peters broke the news when explaining how he’s helping the two young tackles in meetings and off the fields.
“I’m going to get with (Borom), because he’s coming off a high ankle sprain, and I’m gonna get with him and help him around,” Peters said.
The Bears could use all the help they can get on the right side of the line. In addition to Borom, starting right tackle Germain Ifedi is on IR, and his backup Elijah Wilkinson is on the reserve/COVID-19 list. That forced Matt Nagy to move down his depth chart and try Lachavious Simmons beside James Daniels. But Simmons got beat handily when left on an island a few times, prompting the Bears to turn to Alex Bars at right tackle.
When the Bears aren’t keeping tight ends in to block, or bringing in extra linemen, they’ve struggled in pass protection. So any help the Bears can get from Borom or Jenkins will be welcome.
