Bears play it safe, hold Hicks (quad) out of practice

Bears

Given how he's played over the first week of training camp, Akiem Hicks' absence on Friday was all the more noticable. The team's not pushing veterans too hard right now – Robert Quinn and Khalil Mack are both still 'ramping up' – but Hicks has been in live drills and reps all week.

Matt Nagy was obviously asked about it after practice, and the Bears coach downplayed any serious concerns.

"In regards to Hicks, he has just a little bit of a quad, so we’re just kind of keeping him out right now," he said. "Again, we’re kind of turning it into some of these vet days. We’re getting close to that, so it kind of falls into that. We don’t want to make anything worse than what it is."

The team's next off day is Monday, so Hicks' participation over the weekend will be something to keep an eye on.

In other injury news, the Bears will put undrafted tight end Darion Clark on Injured Reserve. Clark hurt his shoulder during Thursday's session and will miss the entire 2020 season. Linebacker Josh Woods was also held out of Friday's practice with a groin issue.
