Bears sign former Packers linebacker Joe Thomas

The Bears announced on Tuesday that they signed another player who figures to factor heavily into their special teams unit. The team agreed to a deal with journeyman linebacker Joe Thomas.

Thomas split his 2021 season with the Texans and Ravens, playing mostly on special teams. However, Thomas did play on defense a bit, and even started two games.

Prior to his time in Houston and Baltimore, Thomas spent three seasons in both Green Bay and Dallas. He played more on defense for the Packers and Cowboys, but still spent more time on special teams for each team.

Thomas got his start in the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Packers in 2014. Since then, he’s racked up 218 tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception.
