Bears sign Ramiz Ahmed to compete with Eddy Pineiro for the starting kicker job

Buckle up, baby. Another kicking competition is coming to Bourbonnais Lake Forest.

Buried in the Trey Burton and Jason Spriggs announcements was the news that the Bears have signed another kicker:

Ahmed played his college ball at Nevada, where he went 15/20 on field goal attempts in 2018, his senior year. Distance wise, here how it broke down:

20-29 yards: 6-7
30-39 yards: 6-6
40-49 yards: 2-3
50+ yards: 1-4

Ahmed will head to camp looking to win the starting job from Eddy Pineiro, who, you'll remember, outlasted a handful of guys for the gig last summer. Pineiro would go on to hit 23 of his 28 field goals, including the final 11 attempts of the season. He struggled from distance at times, however, going 5-9 from 40+ yards out. Pineiro's on a three-year, $1.7 million contract, but the Bears wouldn't take any sort of financial hit if they were to release him.
