Bears waive Dax Raymond in first step toward addressing tight end logjam

The Bears announced on Monday morning that they waived tight end Dax Raymond:

Raymond, who played his college ball at Utah State, was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He didn't make the 53-man roster out of camp, but was brought back as a member of the team's practice squad.

The move doesn't come as much of a suprise after Ryan Pace used the team's first pick of the 2020 NFL Draft on Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet. Kmet – along with free agent addition Jimmy Graham – will be the presumptive starters at the 'Y' and 'U' positions, respectively. This figures to be the first of several tight end cuts that the Bears make in the coming days and weeks, as the team's still carrying nine players at that position: Kmet, Graham, Ben Braunecker, Darion Clark, Demetrius Harris, J.P. Holtz, Jesper Horsted, Eric Saubert and Adam Shaheen.
