Updated odds for Deshaun Watson trade sweepstakes

Now that reports say Deshaun Watson has officially requested a trade from the Texans, all anyone wants to know is, “What chance does my team have of actually pulling off the deal?” Anticipating such a question, PointsBet released updated odds for which NFL team will land Watson on Thursday morning.

Right now the Bears carry +1200 odds to make the trade with Houston, which is tied for the 10th-shortest odds. That’s a pretty significant change from earlier this month when the Bears’ odds to land Watson were +550. In addition, the New York Jets are the new favorites at +200. Earlier this month their +450 odds were third behind the Miami Dolphins (+300) and the New England Patriots (+400).

The Bears trail behind some of the other favorites for a variety of reasons. First, their No. 20 overall pick in the 2021 draft is much less valuable than other teams can offer. The Jets currently have the No. 2 overall pick, and the Dolphins have the No. 3 overall pick. Other teams can also offer a young quarterback in return to help Houston fill out their quarterback room. The Bears have Nick Foles under contract, but he just turned 32 years old.

Watson finished the 2020 season with the most passing yards in the league at 4,823. In addition, he completed over 70% of his passes, and threw 33 touchdown passes and seven interceptions.
