It was announced today on Twitter former Patriots DB Duron Harmon will be traded to the Detroit Lions. Harmon comes to the NFC North in the final year of his contract with New England. Harmon carries with him a $5.5 million cap hit, $4.25 million of which will be freed up for the Patriots once he is traded.

The trade reunites 29-year-old Harmon with head coach Matt Patricia, whom he worked with from 2013 to 2017 while Patricia was the Patriots’ defensive coordinator. Harmon has played with the Patriots since being drafted by the team during the third round of the 2013 draft out of Rutgers. Since then, Harmon has been a reliable presence on the Patriots’ defense, playing every single game for New England since 2014. Last season he had eight starts, totaling two interceptions, five passes defended and 22 tackles.
Harmon is the latest member of the Patriots defense to arrive in Motor City this offseason. He will see plenty of friendly faces in the locker room as he joins LB Jamie Collins (three-year, $30 million contract) and DT Danny Shelton (two-year, $8 million contract), both former Patriots, leading many fans online to dub the 2020 Lions as “the Detroit Patriots.”
