Jordan Howard, Nick Kwiatkoski receive pay raises for 2019 from CBA rule

Jordan Howard’s third season with the Bears didn’t produce the numbers he might have been hoping for, but his work earned him even better numbers in his rookie contract.

He and linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski both qualify for the “Proven Performance Escalator” in the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, which means they’ll both see their 2019 salary increase to just over $2 million.

According to Over The Cap, the two late-round picks were both set to earn just $720,000 in the last years of their rookie contracts, and the automatic salary escalators will eat up more than $2.5 million of the Bears salary cap space.

Howard and Kwiatkoski earned the "PPE" by playing in at least 35 percent of the team’s offensive or defensive snaps in two of their first three seasons.

By hitting that benchmark, their salary jumps up to equal the lowest restricted free agent tender for the upcoming season.

Based on that criteria, Eddie Jackson and Tarik Cohen are projected to earn the pay increase for 2020.
