Tom Brady did not make NFL’s Top Salesman for the first time in three years. The athlete who took his spot? Well, it’s not a Chicago Bear… yet.
The spot was deservedly taken by Super Bowl LIV quarterback and MVP Patrick Mahomes, but three Bears players did make the NFLPA’s Top 50 Players List. One Bears player was even ranked in the top 10.
The list reports sales of all officially licensed NFL player-identified merchandise, which includes jerseys, T-shirts, trading cards, bobbleheads and wall decals.
So which three players made the list?
Sitting in at No. 8 is Khalil Mack. No surprise there! The linebacker finished as the highest-ranked defensive player off of the entire list and was the highest-ranked defender since Richard Sherman’s seventh-place ranking in 2015.
Mack was also among players (Brady, Mahomes, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers) who led in Hawaiian style shirts from new apparel licensee Shinesty.
Newest Bears quarterback Nick Foles — who defeated Brady in Super Bowl LII and won MVP — posted at No. 44. Perhaps Foles will rank higher for next year’s list if he beats out Mitch Trubisky for No. 1 QB and leads the Bears to a playoff run.
But for now, Trubisky beat Foles this year in sales and was ranked as No. 21 on the list.
It’s certainly going to be fun to see the Bears QB competition this year and it will be interesting to see if Foles can outrank Trubisky in sales next time. Who knows? Foles might even make top salesman next year if he can lead the Bears to a Super Bowl.
