NFL free agency: Why Allen Robinson will not be on Bears in 2021

The Bears have four options with impending free agent wide receiver Allen Robinson. None of them look particularly promising for keeping their best offensive weapon and a true NFL No. 1 receiver in Chicago. No single decision facing Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy this offseason is more indicative of the impossible situation they created for themselves in 2021 (even QB), a year that needs to be defined by “progress” and “improvement,” to keep their jobs. At least that’s what George McCaskey and Ted Phillips intimated on Wednesday. Can the Bears show progress without Robinson? Or would paying him what he deserves limit their ability to address other needs on the roster, therefore limiting the improvement the Bears can actually make? “Obviously that’s a big decision and a big part of it,” Pace said Wednesday about Robinson’s status. Let’s talk though those questions with a look at the Bears’, and Robinson’s, options in the coming months.
