NFL will abandon plans to play international games during 2020 season

The NFL still plans on playing a full 16-game season, but on Monday morning, they announced a slight change of plans: All games will take place on U.S. soil.

Five international games were scheduled to take place during the 2020 season – one at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, and four in London (two at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and two at Wembley). Those games will now be played as normal home games for the Dolphins, Falcons, Jaguars and Cardinals.

The announcement represents the first significant change made to the NFL's schedule since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The league still plans on playing a full season, but the schedule release was delayed for over a month, and NFL officials are reportedly already discussing contingency plans in the case that the season can't start on time. Teams are currently in the middle of a virtual-practice window implemented when it was announced that rookie minicamps and OTAs would not be taking place.
