Tarik Cohen says Bears offense is ‘definitely fixable' after loss to Saints

It's been a while since Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen produced a joystick-like highlight play. He isn't alone in his struggles to produce; the entire offense has played like a collection of inexperienced backups through seven weeks of the 2019 season.

Week 7's 36-25 loss to the New Orleans Saints may have been the offense's worst performance to date. Despite some late-game garbage points, the Bears offense struggled to do much of anything. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky couldn't generate any consistent drives and the running game, including Cohen, didn't give him any help.

Cohen ended Sunday as the Bears' leading rusher with just 10 yards on three carries. He added nine catches for only 19 yards. This coming after a bye week that was supposed to be dedicated to establishing an offensive identity.

"I feel like we just took a step back," Cohen said after the game. "We didn't put the performance on that we wanted to. We let a lot of people down. We let ourselves down, ultimately. Back to the drawing board to come out again."

There's only so many times an offense can go back to the drawing board before significant change is required. Cohen dismissed the notion that that change should be under center.

"That's my quarterback," Cohen said of Trubisky. "I'm always going to be 10 toes behind him. Not everything you see is 100% his fault."

Cohen may be right about other variables contributing to Trubisky's struggles. But at some point, the time for excuses will run out. And Trubisky will bear the burden of the offense's failures on his shoulders.

Cohen is confident the Bears offense will get it all figured out.

"It's definitely fixable. The guys we have in this locker room are high character guys and we're all ready to find that solution or be that solution."
