Top 4 fantasy waiver wire players to target for Week 3

With a quarter of the season in the books, you should have realistic expectations for the players on your roster. There will be guys you drafted that have hit big, and it’s easy to leave them in your lineup, despite nasty matchups. But there will also be disappointments, and it’s much harder to take them out of your lineup, or even cut ties with them completely. Still, you should always be looking to optimize your roster. These waiver wire acquisitions could better prepare you, and afford you flexibility, as the first bye weeks pop up in Week 5.

It’s next man up for the Browns as they announced Nick Chubb will miss several weeks with a knee injury. After Chubb went down, Johnson ended up leading the Browns in carries (13) and yards (95), and he should continue to receive decent volume in the coming weeks. But, tough matchups against the Colts and Steelers in Weeks 5 and 6 do limit Johnson’s upside a bit.

Higgins has replaced John Ross as the WR3 in Cincinnati’s pass-happy offense, but he really looks like the No. 2 option behind Tyler Boyd. With C.J. Uzomah out for the year, and A.J. Green battling nagging injuries, Higgins has seen six or more targets each of the last three weeks. His yardage has increased each and every week as well. Those are the trends you want to see in a waiver wire claim.

While Murray is rostered in the majority of leagues, it’s worth checking to see if he’s available to claim. The Saints are clearly a run-first team, and even though Alvin Kamara has been unstoppable, Murray has standalone value. In three of four games Murray has gotten 12+ carries, so he provides a decent floor if you need a spot start at RB.

Patrick’s viability as a fantasy option depends on whether or not K.J. Hamler and Noah Fant each miss more time with their respective injuries. With both of those guys out, Patrick caught six of his seven targets for 113 yards and a score. But if either of those guys comes back, Patrick will likely see his target share decrease.

Moore has been the quintessential boom or bust fantasy player through the first four weeks this season. Will he have more explosive games this season? Sure. Will you be able to predict when he goes off? Doubt it. Miss me with that volatility.
