Top NFL draft prospect Caleb Farley opts out of 2020 college football season

Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley is projected to be a potential first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. And if he ends up getting selected in the top 32 picks, it won't be based on what he does this season. He announced on Wednesday that he's opting out of the 2020 college football season and will instead focus on preparing for the draft.

Farley possesses great size and length for a defensive back prospect. He'll be high on every defensive coordinator's wish list 6-2, 207 pounds.

The big red flag in Farley's scouting report is injuries. He missed the 2017 season with a torn ACL and sat out of two games in 2019 with back spasms. With so much risk involved with COVID-19 and the 2020 college season, it makes sense for a player with an already checkered injury history like Farley to focus on his pro career instead of rolling the dice on what's likely to be a truncated season anyway.

Farley appeared in 23 games over the last two seasons and finishes his career at Virginia Tech with 43 tackles, six interceptions and one sack. He had a career-high four interceptions in 2019.
