Trey Burton impressed with Mitchell Trubisky, compares him to Carson Wentz

The Chicago Bears signed tight end Trey Burton in free agency with the hope he'll become a Travis Kelce-like weapon for Mitchell Trubisky.

Burton sat behind Zach Ertz in Philadelphia but was widely considered the most appealing player available at his position in free agency. He had 23 catches for 248 yards and five touchdowns in a reserve role in 2017.

Mullin: Teammates see 'greatness' in Mitch Trubisky

Despite not starting, Burton developed a strong bond wIth Carson Wentz, the NFL's leading candidate for MVP last season before his injury. He knows Wentz well, and he compared Trubisky to him on Thursday's Good Morning Football.

Bears GM Ryan Pace is building this roster in a way that resembles the Eagles over the last two years. Wentz thrived in his second season as a starter and the expectations for Trubisky, while not necessarily MVP-level, are similarly high.

Trubisky started 12 games last season, completing 59.4 percent of his passes for 2,193 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. Wentz was more productive as a rookie. He completed 62.4 percent of his throws for 3,782 yards, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Regardless of the stats, Trubisky has checked all the boxes as a leader this offseason and clearly has a fan in Burton, one of the team's most important offensive pieces in 2018.
