Former Northwestern wide receiver Miles Shuler landed an NFL contract after a tryout with the Carolina Panthers.

Shuler spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons with the Cats after sitting out 2013 following his transfer from Rutgers.

He made seven starts as a junior in 2014 before serving mostly as the team's primary punt returner as a senior last season.

In his Wildcat career, Shuler totaled 291 kick-return yards and 152 punt-return yards and caught 36 passes for 322 yards. His lone touchdown with the Cats was a rushing touchdown.

Shuler was one of six rookies the Panthers signed from their minicamp tryouts.

"I think those three guys really have an opportunity to impact us this year," Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said. "I was really pleased with the movement and skills they showed."
